Horses in Forever Homes

new owner stood with adopted horse

These horses were adopted into Forever Homes. They’ve made the leap from abuse and neglect to a solid relationship with a family that loves them. This is what we’re all about!

Turtle – (ADOPTED!)

Turtle – (ADOPTED!)

Turtle was an owner surrender from a women who has done an immense amount of rescuing of her own but has fallen on difficult times. She was a previous hunter jumper with a shoulder injury. We are carefully, with guidence from the vet, going to put her back under saddle to see if she can be suitable for any sort of riding. She is as sweet as they come. Stands well for farrier but isn’t fond of baths or fly spray. She is 7 years old and stands around 13 hands high.

Update from Nov. 2014: Turtle was adopted!

Congrats to the Nickas Family! They adopted both Turtle and Flicka!

Minnie Pearl – (ADOPTED!)

Update: Minnie Pearl was adopted in August 2014. She’s found a wonderful forever home!

Flea-bitten gray QH mare. We were told she is approx 14 years old (Our vet thought she might be older) and was pulled out of a bog/pond with a tractor and has a “hitch in her getalong” on her left flank. She is very gentle and will be good for light riding.

Cash

Update from August 2014: Cash was adopted! This lucky guy will be so happy and cared for in his forever home.

Cash is an Arabian gelding that Leon County Animal Control asked us to take in. Foster mom Beth decided to “give Cash a go” and he did great under saddle in the round pen!

Mandy

Mandy

Mandy is a dark black/bay Thoroughbred mare that was rescued from a bad situation in Georgia. She is now in a wonderful foster home and is already starting to flourish.

UPDATE Aug. 2014:
Ground works nicely with Clinton Anderson’s method (she tends to be lazy with a softer approach like Parelli); she leads very well on both sides; she can be tacked up on either side as long as the girth is put on slowly and tightened gradually, she won’t lay down; she backs, turns, joins up, ground ties, and is learning to yield hindquarters and to flex; rides really well; picks up correct lead; and does ride collected when asked.

Update: Mandy found her forever home!

Flicka

Flicka is an 11 year old Bay Paso Fino cross Mare. She was rescued from Madison County and was brought into our foster program at the end of May. We are still evaluating her and she still needs to put on some weight. She is not yet available for adoption.

UPDATE: Flicka has now blossomed at her foster home. She is plump and healthy thanks to love and care. She is super gentle and will make someone (child or smaller adult) an excellent horse.

UPDATE: Flicka was adopted in Nov. 2014!

Congrats to the Nickas Family! They adopted both Turtle and Flicka!

Whiskey

Whiskey
Whiskey is a 2 1/2 year old Palomino Quarter Horse gelding. We were told he is out of “Two-Eyed Jack” stock. He was rescued in April and has made a great comeback so far. He is extremely sweet and gentle and his wonderful foster, Beth has been doing LOTS of ground work with him. He leads, loads, ties, good with farrier, yields to pressure, backs, and will make someone an EXCELLENT horse. Not to mention he’s absolutely beautiful!!!.
Here are some pictures from the day he was brought in Triple R

Scout

Scout

Scout came to us through Madison County Animal Control after he was confiscated with several other animals from his owner.

He is about 4 years old and has been in training with William Alford in Ochlochnee, Ga., who says he is turning into a great trail horse prospect.

Scout is a gelding, under 15 hands. He’s a sweet boy who is best for a moderate to experienced rider.

He should be done with his current round of training and ready for adoption by Thanksgiving.

Our second picture is from just after he was picked up and put into foster in August 2013, when he was a little over two years old.

We’re expecting updated photos from Alford Training shortly.

Suzie

Suzie

Suzie is a beautiful 14 year old Bay Quarter Horse Mare. Her registered name is Pocos Pro Suzie. She came from Crawfordville FL. Her owner rescued her from a bad situation and brought her back to health. After realizing that she did not have enough room to keep her in her backyard, she contacted us. Suzie is very friendly, she loads and is easy to handle on the ground. We are unsure about her riding experience at this time.  She is a beautiful well built horse!

UPDATE Aug. 2014:
Ground works nicely with softer type methods (she tends to be very sensitive and reactive to firmer methods); she leads pretty good on both sides; she can be tacked up on either side as long as tack is introduced slowly; she backs, turns, joins up, ground ties, and is learning to yield hindquarters and to flex from the ground.

Update: Suzie has found her forever home!

Titan

Titan- 18 year old, 16H plus APHA gelding. Has hunter/jumper training and has shown. Titan was kicked in the head by another horse several years ago and had a seizure in the past. He is recommended for light riding. Very sweet horse that is currently being fostered along with Seminole by the Brasher family. They have done a wonderful job in rehabilitating both horses!

This was Titan when he first came into the rescue.

Titan was recently adopted (Summer 2014)
